Be Ahead Of The Curve For A Successful Lawn in 2012

Monday, January 16, 2012

The biggest mistake that I see homeowners making on there lawncare is timing of the applications. Even though you may have the best of intention, and done your research, the application ends up going down late due to normal delays such as weather, prior commitments, equipment failure, etc.  Most lawn care products are time sensitive and will not work properly if applied out of the designated window of opportunity.  Crabgrass and weed control are the two best examples.

One of the best ways to alleviate this problem is to hire a reputable lawn care provider that specializes in treating lawns with fertilizers and pesticides.  This company will need to be state certified in the areas pertaining to your needs. They should also have a clear, definitive plan of what they are going to apply and when they will be applying it.  All of this information should be made available to you before a service agreement is reached.

HillSide Lawn Service is a Maryland, Delaware and Pennsylvania States certified company.  We have six certified applicators working for us making applications and recommendations for over 3000 customers in the tri-state area.  We are very good at getting our timing right, and we also use tested products at the correct rates.  This all adds up to you getting the best looking lawn available at a competitive price. Call us today to have a free estimate and start service before the lawn care curve is on the downslope!

Green Pastures, Brown Lawns ....

Friday, July 08, 2011
Why do you think this photo of a local farm pasture is so green and healthy in a July heat wave?  Most home lawns are currently showing signs of heat/drought stress with brown and dormant areas throughout.  Heres why:  a pasture is mowed at 8-12" and can grow higher than that in between mowings.  The tall grass blades shade the soil line preventing the soil profile from drying out (and new weeds germinating).  This allows the grass plants to remain vibrant and green.  Also, pasture grass varieties tend to be drought resistant.  That's why we recomend mowing your grass at 4" and using Turf-Type Tall Fesque for seeding.  Your Maryland lawn may not be as green as this pasture all summer, but following these basic tips will help with the heat/drought stress issues.     Picture taken July 7, 2011.

A Sea Of Clover

Friday, May 27, 2011

cloverThis is the time of year where you can find areas of mowed turf covered with a sea of white clover.  The reason I say this is because clover patches can become prolific if left untreated this time of year.  This is good for the honey bees but bad for the homeowner who wants a weed free lawn.

The solution is simple: call HillSide Lawn Service and have an MDA certified technician spray the turf allowing the grass to move ahead of the clover.

Attack of the Dandelions

Friday, May 13, 2011

dandelionsIt's time to get out the broadleaf weed control and attack the dandelions.  These weeds are very easy to control because they respond well (or poorly for them) to selective post-emergent weed controls.

Dandelions can become invasive and unsightly if left untreated.  Other broadleaf weeds that are prolific this time of year include: clover, plantain, dock, ground ivy, and knawel.  Call HillSide Lawn Service today for a price to treat your weeds.

Broadleaf weeds in the lawn

Friday, May 06, 2011

Curley Dock Broadleaf WeedsThis is the time of year we see all types of weeds popping up in the lawn.  One of the worst is Curley Dock.  This weed really takes off in May, growing like wildfire and becoming unsightly in a hurry.

Call Hillside or contact us online as soon as possible to have these weeds eradicated by a licensed technician.
