Dolomitic Limestone

Well-balanced soil is a key element to a beautiful lawn. Soils in the Mid-Atlantic region tend to be acidic. Dolomitic limestone is used to help neutralize soil acidity. This is primarily due to soil types and annual rainfall. Turfgrass grows poorly in highly acidic soils because of nutrient imbalance and toxicity. Acidic soil is improved by adding lime. Turf responds best to a soil pH of 5.5 to 7.5 on a scale of 14. The addition of lime raises the soil’s pH to this range.

HillSide applies the best form of limestone for turfgrass, palletized dolomitic limestone. Lime is applied at a heavy rate with a mechanical spreader. HillSide includes a regularly scheduled application of lime in the late winter as part of your lawn care program. If you think your soil is particularly acidic, you may consider having HillSide aerate and apply lime at the same time in the fall.
