Lawn Fungus

We keep your lawn healthy. Turfgrass disease is most prominent in the spring when nights are cool and afternoons are humid. Fungus growth can sometimes be seen on the grass blade, as in powdery mildew or rust disease. In the cases of brown patch and leaf spot disease, the actual fungus is not visible, but results of these infections show up as reddish-brown oval shaped lesions on the blades. Lawns should be routinely checked for developing disease problems when climatic conditions are favorable, because if left untreated, fungus disease can damage turf.

HillSide’s Disease Control Program

HillSide will routinely check for developing disease problems. If necessary, they can treat the lawn with fungicides that can suppress the fungus long enough for the turf to recover. Fungicide products are difficult to work with and should only be used by licensed applicators.

What The Homeowner Can Do

Because lawn diseases are easier to prevent than cure, the homeowner is the first line of defense against disease. You should plant a disease resistant grass variety, like Tall Fescue or Improved Bluegrass. Be sure to mow your lawn at the correct height and do not remove more than 1/3 of the grass blade. Water your lawn deeply, infrequently, and only when needed. Utilize HillSide to fertilize your lawn at appropriate rates and times of the year. If a disease does develop in your lawn, contact your HillSide representative to schedule chemical control.
